Epilobium is a perennial herb that multiplies by rhizomes. The stems are upright 0.5 - 2 m long and covered with fuzz.
The leaves on the stalk are arranged in pairs. The leaves are lanceolate in oblong lanceolate with serrated edges and 5 - 12 cm long. These leaves are pubescent on both the upper and the lower surfaces.
The flowers in pink consist of four petals up to 2.5 cm in length.
